In the ancient city of Osogbo, where tradition is woven in one piece with modernity and lying along a lurchy green path watered by an ever-flowing river lies the Osun Osogbo Sacred groove.

Regarded as the birthplace of the Osun fertility goddess, this UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) world heritage site has all the makings of an exotic weekend getaway. Being in touch with nature and our African ancestry, the Osun Osogbo sacred groove has a plethora of native and effective medicinal herbs that can be used in curing most of the common ailments that plague mankind. Perhaps a visit will heal you from all the bad energy caused by the covid pandemic.

But that’s not all.

The grove is also home to over forty (40) shrines all lined with various enchanting sculptures and artworks that will make Michael Angelo’s David look like a walk in the park.  Better still, you can visit the annual Osun Osogbo festival. A rich cultural extravaganza that showcases Africa’s cultural diversity which holds every August.

2. Yankari National Park, Bauchi State

If not for the enchanting scenery, the number of tourists that visit this site yearly should give you a clue of how awesome it is. In the year 2000 alone, the Yankari national park hosted over 18,000 tourists. A week here with your loved ones will certainly create some magic if you’re looking to rekindle a dying romance or create some unforgettable experience in this post-covid era.

Deep in the bustling heart of Lagos, in Ikeja, lies another tourist location Eldorado – the New Afrika Shrine. Built by the late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, a visit here would reconnect you to your African roots. You know what they say about music – that it’s the food of the soul.

Here, your ears will be filled with unadulterated afrobeat music resonating from the heart of the continent and an art gallery reminiscent of our rich African heritage. The shrine also features an open-air entertainment hub where socialites and nightlife lovers frequent to release some of the stress of everyday work life.

Every year, there’s an event at the Fela shrine called “Felabration” which plays host to some of the biggest music stars in the industry. And it’s always an unforgettable experience. Create an exciting experience for you and your loved ones by adding the next Felabration to your calendar!

There is something so therapeutic about waterfalls. As you watch the water plummet down below never to be seen again, it gives a refreshing feeling of having your worries washed down below. At least for me, that is the way waterfalls make me feel.

And the Agbokim waterfall in the heart of Cross River State is the perfect place to lose all your worries and lose yourself in the moment. Discovered in the early 1990s by a local hunter, this breathtaking waterfall, located in the tropical rainforest features a resort, the type that creates that deep connection with nature away from all the noise of modern life.

If hiking is your thing, the Agbokim resort has it all. Here is something you probably haven’t heard. The waterfall is made up of seven streams dubbed “the seven faced wonder”. How cool is that? Wait until you visit with your friends and family now that the lockdown is over.

5. Mountain Resort, Obudu, Cross River State

While we were on lockdown, the grasses have become greener and the landscape even more breathtaking. In the beautiful city of Cross River State, there is even more amazing scenery waiting for you when you visit in the post-Covid period.

Although this resort was originally a cattle ranch, it doesn’t subtract anything from all the memories you can create here. From the mountaintops, you have an unobstructed view of the beautiful landscape. It is no surprise the Obudu resort is the number one travel destination for Nigerians and tourists from all over the world.

To add more sugar to the icing, you also have access to the cable car which gives you an aerial view of the ranch in a way that pictures cannot tell.  And along the wobbly bridge with a canopy, you cannot create lasting moments. So what are you waiting for? Covid is over so you have no excuse anymore not to enjoy the beautiful view of the Obudu mountain resort.

Outside this list, there are still other cool places you can visit now that the Covid pandemic is finally over. From the Kainji lake national park in north-western Nigeria to Erin-Ijesha also in the heart of Osun State to Okomu National park, you can finally create those unforgettable memories with your loved ones.
